Activities and Trips around Cabarete

Playa Grande

It is about 1 hour drive direction East. Along with the soft, powder-like sand, the beach is lined with tall coconut palms and bordered on each side by rugged coral formations and cliffs. The big waves this area enjoys makes it a popular spot for surfing and body/boogie boarding. Just behind the beach are a number of food vendors who vie to be the first to offer you their freshly prepared seafood dishes and refreshments, served on tables in front of their establishments, or brought right to your chair on the beach!

"El Choco National Park"

After just a short time in the Area Protegida (Protected Area) Cabarete and Goleta, you have no doubt in your mind as to how this lush and diverse area was named a "National Monument". Any local will tell you that its real name is "El Choco National Park". Bordered by the foothills of the Cordillera Septentrional to the south and the Cabarete Lagoon to the North, the park guards 77 square kilometers (48 square miles) of pasture land, lagoon, jungle, tropical plants, Caribbean birds, caves, and abruptly jutting hills. Many of the freshwater springs encountered in the park have subterraneous origins deep in the belly of the earth.

Puerto Plata & Mountain Isabel

Located 45 minutes west of Cabarete, Puerto Plata is the largest city on the north coast. It's name, 'Port of Silver', was given to it because of the silver luster of the water at sunset. There are a few attractions you can visit besides the town, such as the Amber Museum, the San Felipe Fort and the famous Brugal Rum Distillery.

Located 45 minutes west of Cabarete, towards Puerto Plata, is Mount Isabel. You can't miss it on your drive there. This is a close area to do some hiking and see some beautiful views of the countryside.

One of the singular experiences that offer Puerto Plata to the national and foreign tourists is the Cableway, unique in the country and the Antilles, that allow us to visit the top of the mountain Isabel de Torres, where Christ Redentor hopes with the opened arms at which they are ventured to watch the complete city from the stop.

At the moment one is to all capacity, this wonder constructed in 1973 and recovered in 1999 and that thanks to the work of a patronage has been improving the conditions of one of the most beautiful gardens of the country.
